Enjoy the Holidays Without the Added Weight
Party favors make great little mementos to remind you of what a fabulous time you had. But not when the party favor is in the form of fat deposits on your hips and belly. Do you really want to start off the New Year with a new roll of back fat serving as a constant reminder of how much you loved your girlfriend’s red velvet cupcakes? Of course not. So here are some of the holiday tricks and tips that help me to navigate my way from one holiday party to the next without having to loosen up my pants.
Try to eat a healthy snack and drink 16oz of water before heading to a holiday party. It will keep you hydrated and leave less room in your stomach for the sweet stuff.
Remember that liquor is high in sugar so each glass of wine or spiked eggnog is just like eating a dessert. So you choose…drink or dessert but refrain from having both.
Limit your cocktails and try to drink 8 ounces of water for every 8 ounces of liquor that you consume.
Just say no to “top offs” like whip cream, scoops of ice cream, sprinkles, or heavy syrups.
Pick treats made with cinnamon or nuts; the cinnamon will help to stabilize your blood sugar and the fiber in the nuts will slow the rate that the sugar is absorbed into the bloodstream.
OR choose to nosh on olives instead of nuts to cut out unwanted calories.
Eat dips that are loaded with nutrient-dense ingredients like hummus and guacamole.
Instead of chips and crackers, pair dips with carrots, bell peppers or fruit.
And most importantly, stay committed to treating your body well and it will recover from whatever this holiday season has in store.
